Less searching. More discovering.

Follow the branch.
Keep the bigger picture.

Large family trees hold wonderful detail. Ramus helps you move through that detail without losing the person, the relationship or the story you came to find.

01 / NAVIGATE

Find your way back

Follow people through the tree with a breadcrumb trail. Return to an earlier person, keep useful branches as bookmarks, or share a direct link.

02 / SEE CLEARLY

A clearer view of big trees

Choose your generations and family layers. Use the tree overview to move around, zoom to the selected person, and tuck the side panel away.

03 / CONNECT

Make relationships visible

See how people are connected and highlight the visible relationship path. Keep the rest of the tree in view as you follow the thread.

More than names and dates

One family.
Different perspectives.

A tree shows the connections. A story brings a person into focus. A map puts their recorded places in context.

Start with the people around them

Move between parents, partners and children. Expand the tree when you want more context.

Built around your research

Your tree stays
with Gramps Web.

Ramus connects to Gramps Web to present the people, events, sources and relationships you’ve already recorded. Your family database remains on your own infrastructure.

Family access is managed through your installation. This promotional website never needs your Gramps login or a copy of your tree.

v0.1.1 · Developer preview

A new way to explore
the tree you’ve built.

Ramus is available now as an early source-based preview for people comfortable running their own applications. Start with the installation guide and choose the route that fits your setup.

Packaged downloads and a published Docker image are being prepared. There is no hosted family-tree service or registration form on this site. Distribution licensing is still being finalised.

I’m starting with an empty tree

Build the bundled installer from source. It starts Ramus with a separate, empty Gramps Web stack using Docker Compose.

A few useful details

Before you
get started.

Does Ramus replace Gramps Web?

No. Ramus is a companion viewer connected to Gramps Web. Gramps Web remains the family database and research platform behind your installation.

Do I need somewhere to host it?

Yes. The current preview runs on your own computer or server. Docker is used for the bundled installation. Secure remote family access also needs an HTTPS address and appropriate server configuration.

Can my family use it on a phone?

The viewer adapts to smaller screens, including a menu drawer and a collapsible tree overview. Large trees naturally benefit from more screen space.

Are the examples from a real family?

The main tree screenshot shows real historical records, with visible marriage dates of 1675 and 1710. No modern relatives or account details are shown. The Family, Story and Places illustrations further down this page use entirely synthetic people and places.

Can I download a ready-made release?

Not yet. The current route is through the source repository and installation guide. Downloadable packages, a public container image and distribution licensing are still being prepared.
